Doctor Who Icons

Over the last couple of weeks I watched all three seasons of Dr. Who (2005) and fell in love with this goofy show, that somehow sucessfully combines the silly & cheesy with the exciting & heart-wrenching. It's rare that I fall for light-hearted shows, so that was a pleasant surprise. I initially wanted to make art, but then settled for icons instead.

This batch of icons is dedicated to my dear friend [livejournal.com profile] llywela13 who made me watch the show in the first place. I hope these icons make her smile and cheer her up a bit! ♥ A tiny apology for my lack of attentiveness on Sunday. :)

The caps I used in these icons are from Time and Space. The brushes are from [livejournal.com profile] 100x100_brushes, textures are from [livejournal.com profile] gender and [livejournal.com profile] uglybusiness. Feel free to use the icons but please give credit.

I need a bearhug icon too. You don't fancy making me one, while you're on a roll, do you? *G*

I do! Do you have a preference, show wise? Want a Sam/Dean bearhug or a Doctor/companion bearhug or any other show?

Ooh, surprise me. Something really simple but pretty and clear, like yours. Thank you!

'Cause I can make some stuff for myself, but have my limits.

Okay then! You got it! :D

<----- there you go! I hope you like it! If you want different colours just say it. :D

Aww, you are a star - that was quick! Thank you! ♥

Hey, this week's recap is way easier than last week's was! It almost writes itself...

Heh, happy that you like it. Maybe I make another one, 'cause Winchester hugs are so angsty .. maybe I'll make a a happy hug too! :D

Cool, can't wait to read it! I actually re-watched this episode a lot over the last couple of days and it has grown on me more and more I have to say. My first points still stand, but they don't bug me that much anymore, the great brother dynamic just wins out!

It is true: Winchester hugs are always about the angst!

I'm so glad the episode has improved on you - I've loved it more with every rewatch, and was growing alarmed at the thought of us having such different opinions! I should try to get back to your review post so we can talk it through again. But playtime is focused on the recap for now.

It's not that I didn't like that episode the first time around, I just thought I would be more excited about it than I was and pinned down a couple of reasons. I am still not happy with the funny death montage, but overall that's just 2 minutes out of 40 and there's so much that makes up for it in that episode, that it became negligible after some re-watchings. :)

I never found the funny death montage funny, although I can see where lovers of slapstick would. There's a strong element of farce, but that's the Trickster's signature - he's mocking Sam's efforts to keep Dean alive by making the deaths ever more ridiculous. It's deliberate cruelty, but it's also a clue as to who is responsible, if only Sam were able to think clearly enough to recognise it. And I think the fact that we stop seeing Sam's reactions at that point is significant - the next time we see him he has lost it completely, ripping the Mystery Spot to bit, which tells its own story about the effect all this is having on him.

...overall, no, the element of farce hasn't bugged me since the first time around, and that's a huge relief considering how much I still don't like Tall Tales!

*plays with recap*

<---- happy hug! So now you are ready to deal with what ever hug people need .. a bouncy happy hug or a angsty comfort hug! *g*

That's true but that's already rationalisation of why the deaths happen the way they do, when you watch something for the first time, you react more out of gut instinct and that screamed at me wrong all the time. LOL Funny enough Tall Tales grew on me as well though! Still not anywhere near my favs but I like it better now than first time around.

Yayay for happy hugs. You are a star. ♥

I prefer to call it hindsight, myself - understanding what is going on better once I have all the facts at my disposal *G* Then again, I never had the gut WRONG screaming that you did to begin with. I enjoyed this episode the first time I saw it, and have loved it more with each re-watch.

Tall Tales, on the other hand, has never really grown on me. I've just learned to pick the bits I can love out from the rest!

Heh, glad you like it! :D

Well, I call it usually rationalisation if I try to explain something away, that I initially didn't like, while hindsight I use more often in the context of finding new layers in something via a newly provided information and hence deeper understanding, but mostly with things that I already liked or was neutral about.
