I usually wait until I have more than one art together to post it here, but I figured since this is a special one I might just break this rule for once :) I waited a long time to art the end dialogue between John and Dean in 'In My Time Of Dying' since it had a huge emotional impact on me and I couldn't find the right way to capture this moment until now. I am immensely happy with how this turned out, so enjoy!
I was always very ambivalent towards John, he made me furious because of the responsibility he put on Dean's shoulders at an age so young and his tendency to be reprimanding and harsh. I never had a doubt that he loved his sons though. What made this scene so incredibly intense for me was that John made sure that his last words to his firstborn weren't only about his love for Dean as a son (which was in there as well though) but about Dean as a person. An acknowledgement of his immense importance for this family, about the sacrifices Dean made and his steady and loyal input for Sam and John. It's an appreciation Dean needs to hear and it saddens me (and makes me mad as well, as usual with John) that John knows that Dean needs this acknowledgement from him, more than a simple 'I love you, son', but wasn't able to give it to him when he was younger.
