A Christmas Present For My Flist
Dec. 17th, 2009 02:24 pm![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
It's exactly one week until Christmas Eve, and I thought I'd do something special for my friends-list this year. As a little thank you for making my time on LJ so enjoyable - either by commenting on my art or by engaging me in thinky Supernatural discussions over my reviews - I want to offer you my services as a fanartist/writer for a request of your choosing. I've been thinking about this for a while now, but I always hesitated to actually offer it, not least because I cannot guarantee that a request will spark a creative response in me, but I thought what the heck, just give it a try, make it a Christmas present to your friends and see what happens. Sooooo ....
Hereby I proclaim the next seven days 'Make A Request' week!
IMPORTANT: This is open to everyone on my flist who commented at least once in my journal, and that includes the few regular commenters who don’t have a livejournal account as well. Simply comment on this post with your request, it will be open 'til the 24th of December! There are two options:
I will start working on your prompts after the Christmas holidays, but please bear in mind that I am not the fastest fanartist/writer on the planet and real life can always be an obstacle, so it might take a while until I managed to work my way through the requests. :)
MERRY CHRISTMAS, FLIST! ♥ ♥
IMPORTANT: This is open to everyone on my flist who commented at least once in my journal, and that includes the few regular commenters who don’t have a livejournal account as well. Simply comment on this post with your request, it will be open 'til the 24th of December! There are two options:
- You can request a wallpaper (max. size 1280x800). You can give me a prompt as simple as 'make me something from scene/episode xy', but you can also ask for a complex and detailed concept you’ve always wanted to see on canvas. I am also open to icon requests, so if you want to have a batch of icons from a specific episode or with a specific theme, I will do that as well.
- I know that some people on my flist come here for my reviews/metas, so I decided that you can also ask for a meta on a topic of your choosing or request a specific review for one of the S1 episodes, I didn’t manage to do yet.
I will start working on your prompts after the Christmas holidays, but please bear in mind that I am not the fastest fanartist/writer on the planet and real life can always be an obstacle, so it might take a while until I managed to work my way through the requests. :)

Date: 2009-12-17 01:57 pm (UTC)You can request something as well, you know. This works outside the HB wall I promised you. *hugs*

Date: 2009-12-17 02:00 pm (UTC)If I was going to request something, I'd say something season one...ooooh, a Nightmare wall to go with the list of love I'm working on!
no subject
Date: 2009-12-17 02:05 pm (UTC)Nightmare it is then. Anything in particular?

Date: 2009-12-17 03:15 pm (UTC)I could get really high brow and technical and suggest a Nightmare wall related to what we were discussing earlier: how the way Sam projects his fears onto Dean blinds him to the true nature of his brother's concern (ie for him rather than about him) and how this sets up a dynamic between them that is still going strong into season 5!
But I shall leave it entirely open to your own discretion.

Date: 2009-12-17 03:26 pm (UTC)Mind, that concept from within the episode could work - there's that moment at the beginning when Dean allows his concern to show and Sam reacts badly contrasted with the scene at the end where Dean swallows his fears to present Sam with a facade of absolute confidence and reassurance, which is what Sam both desires and craves yet takes so completely for granted that he barely even notices the safety net is there until it is pointed out to him.
*stops thinking*
You make whatever you want to make!

Date: 2009-12-17 02:24 pm (UTC)Way to rain on my parade, sweetie. *huffs*
LOL. Anyway, I can't resist this one. I want Santa!Sam and Santa!Dean *tilts head* Does that sound appropriate? Anyway, size: 1024x768 (yes, I still have the old monitor)
*huggles*

Date: 2009-12-17 03:10 pm (UTC)Yes, I can do that. I might even try to get that request done in time for Christmas. ;)

Date: 2009-12-17 03:14 pm (UTC)I could have gone for a crossover. You said Supernatural related, not strictly SPN! *grins* I could have requested... Dean/Cousin It (from teh Adams Family)!
LOL
*huggles* Thanks, hun!

Date: 2009-12-17 04:28 pm (UTC)What I would like, if it's possible, is a wallpaper that uses the shot of Dean in 4.01 just after he dug himself from his grave, and the shot of Sam in 4.09 at a crossroad. Do you see the ones I mean? I've always found the similarities and contrasts between these shots fascinating... I hope it's not too vague for a request!
Merry Chrismas to you!

Date: 2009-12-17 04:57 pm (UTC)You mean the wide overhead shots in both scenes? I can do that, I guess. Do you want me to imply a connection, i.e. that Sam made a deal for Dean's life?

Date: 2009-12-17 06:59 pm (UTC)Heh! Not going to debate who does best SPN art here
because that's you, but I really just love to glimpse on how you see characters or situations: your interpretation is always so deep and beautiful ♥I thought about a Castiel character wall but Tam beat me to it :) So... I know you dislike D/C slash, but how about a gen episodic piece with these characters? My favorite episodes are On the head of a pin and The end; would you be willing to make a piece with canonic Dean and Castiel interaction, based on either of those? I'm not asking for a "pro" D/C piece in any way. Just picture how you see them and what message you think these characters bear in an episode or scene.
But if you're still uncomfortable with the idea... a season 4/5 Dean character piece then, about his struggles and/or victories?
To make a nice imaginary set with Tam's Castiel one ;)*hugs*

Date: 2009-12-17 07:24 pm (UTC)Okay, I had the feeling you would ask something like that and if I wasn't prepared to do it, I would have removed that option. I'll give it some thought and hope I can come up with something that satisfies you, emotionally as well as artistically. Thanks for giving me another option in case I fail to come up with something. ;)
*hugs*

Date: 2009-12-17 05:43 pm (UTC)If it's not too much to ask can I have a wallpaper with Castiel? The way you see the character/your likes/dislikes? :)

Date: 2009-12-19 01:00 pm (UTC)Well, I think Bloodlust has to be one of my favorite episodes, so I think I'm gonna have to go with Dean being all dangerous, damaged and broken from this ep. (or any other one where he's equally tortured, I'm totally easy like that!) And if you wanna through in some Sam as well, I wouldn't complain. ;)

Date: 2009-12-19 01:10 pm (UTC)Ooh, Bloodlust! I didn't do much art from that episode, so it shouldn't be hard to find something to work with. Tortured!Dean always makes for nice art. The boy suffers so prettily! *g*

That's exactly what I thought when I first saw it. I was only too happy to snag it.
Happy holidays to you as well. May 2010 bring good things for you!

Date: 2009-12-19 08:55 pm (UTC)I would like a Dean (wallpaper or banner) with the line "I'm the hero of the story/ Don't need to be saved" and maybe more (like "it's alright, it's alright") from the Regina Spektor song "Hero" (if you haven't heard it, you can hear it here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZgkiUCWbLYg ), centered on the theme of Dean denying that he needs any help or saving from Sam, pretending fiercely that "it's alright"--especially in season 3, or like the beginning of season 2 when he's denying he's messed up by his father's death, or even in "Faith"....with images maybe of Dean pretending contrasted with angsty!Dean, like beating up the Impala....
I just think this song expresses the pathos of Dean and his denial well...
