galathea: (wee!Sam bitchface)

With the show airing again and the review writing 'duties' stealing most of my weekend time, arting takes a bit of a backseat at the moment, but yesterday I was lucky and found a bit of time to work on the promised companion piece to my 'The First Seal' wallpaper. Enjoy!

The Last Seal: So, this is the companion piece to 'The First Seal' and deals with Sam breaking the last seal on the door to Lucifer's prison by killing the first demon, Lilith. Unfortunately the wallpaper isn't quite as evocative as its counterpart, but in the end I am just happy I manged to finish something that I didn't completely hate, because at first I thought the wallpaper won't work out at all.

As for composition: Sam looms over Lilith, holding her in his psychic death grip, grim and determined. I took the 'door' metaphor from the show pretty literal and positioned Lilith in front of it to show her function as the last barricade, as she falls dead, the door opens. White light escapes the opened door, heralding the arrival of the fallen angel and Ruby, who orchestrated the escape of the 'lightbringer', awaits him triumphantly. Lucifer's prison is located underneath a convent, so I used a couple of church stocks to emphasise that. Since my manip base for Ruby at the door had a pretty distorted perspective, I went on with it and used some weird angles and perspectives on the other images as well, trying to achieve an Escher-esk feeling, I am not quite sure if that worked though.

Ooh, nice job with the Ruby manip. :)

I always love the way you work with light and shade, negative space and colouring :)

Thank you! :) Yeah, negative space especially has become such a fixed constant in my artwork, while textures nearly completely vanished. I just really love the clean look and the way it makes the caps stand out so much more. :)

Whoa! Once again you have amazed me with your work. Love the depth in this with the door and space inside and out. Such imagery. Great piece once again. :)

Thanks! I aim to please. *g* The piece profited a lot from the manip base, which brings an interesting angle into the piece right way. :) I just played off of that.

Oooh, very pretty reds and purples! And interesting incorporating that evanescence doorway, it was always far more beautiful than the album deserved. I'm so happy you got to finish this companion piece, leaving projects unfinished is always frustrating.

Thank you, hon! *hug* You know, I was looking for a good door stock like forever, because I really didn't want some normal wooden door, but something heavy and mysterious looking. I couldn't find a single image that satisfied me, so when I discovered the Evanescence album cover, I knew I had to use it as a base for Ruby. :)

Oh, bloody hell!

Amazing job on this one, particularly the Ruby manip! I've been trying to fit Amy Lee in a manip for ages, so I'm happy to see it's doable ;)

*huggles* Great job, hun!

Thanks, Ari! *hugs* I've never seen that cover before, but it was pretty much perfect for the image I had in mind for the 'last seal' wallpaper! :)

Very nice. If I hadn't seen "LR" I never would've guessed Ruby in this wallpaper was a manip.

Thanks! Heh, well, it's the goal of a manip not to be recognised as such after all! *g*
