YAY! Art!

So, my life is still crazy at the moment and art kinda has to take a backseat. But I finished a wallpaper a couple of weeks ago that I didn’t post yet and worked on another one, bit by bit, over the last week and I think it’s finally ready to show its face in public too. *g* Enjoy, since it is probably my last art post for this year!

Dreamer: Okay, so people who know me will ask: Who are you and what have you done with Chris, because pink?!? I am known for hating that colour, but in the end that was what worked best with the theme and the different elements in the wall, so please bear with me. *g* Mary has always been a favourite character of mine, even if we didn't get to know much about her in the beginning of the series. In this wallpaper, I wanted to focus on Mary before the YED turned her life to ashes, the hopeful and kind spirited young woman, with dreams of a world beyond hunting. Mary feels trapped, she is on the inside, looking out, longing for the illusion of peace, safety and innocence of the 'normal' world. She knows what’s out there and still (or maybe just because) she preserved dreams of romance and happily ever after, the very things she sees in John.

As for the manip: Originally Mary should have been looking out of the window, but none of the few caps where she looks up and to the side worked for the manip, so we just have to pretend that she is about to look up. :) Despite the warm colours, I chose a winter landscape for the outside, because I associate quiet and peace with snow. What else? Meta suggests that Mary is connected to a rose-theme in the show, hence the rose in my wall. The charm obviously isn’t the protection bracelet Mary wears in the show, but a simple silver charm, one she would probably wear if she was a 'normal' girl.

So, I hope this is not too girly and cheesy for you all! *g* Well, and if it is, just skip it! Oh, and I know that technically this is a piece about Mary Campbell, but well, I love the name Winchester. And I stop with the ramble right now … uhm, sorry!

Crisis Of Faith: This wallpaper is about Sam's crisis of faith after meeting Castiel and Uriel in It’s The Great Pumpkin, Sam Winchester. The angels' order to smite a whole town as a preventive measure throws him and evokes doubts about his own beliefs and his possibility for salvation. Sam is sourrounded by peaceful symbols of faith (angel statue, dove) in my piece, but from the right the radical angel Uriel smites right through these symbols, showing how his merciless attitude crashes Sam's beliefs. I positioned Castiel to the left, his pensive expression mirrors Sam's. The angel is willing to obey and destroy the town, but he is burdened by doubts and questions himself, which puts him apart from Uriel.

Chris, you are Amazing, with capital 'A'. And right now I want to build a temple and worship your brain in it. And your mouse operating hand ♥

Fantastic! I love pink...everything I do turns out pink-ish, anyway...and it suits Mary and the theme of the wallpaper really well.
The Sam wallpaper is oustanding, I could stare at it for hours! :)

ROFL well, I don't usually. I played around a lot with different hues of orange and red, but in the end always returned to pink, it fitted best with the rose theme.

Thanks, I am quite happy with the Sam wall too. Though I think I used up my contingent on wings in art for this year. *lol*

Anyway, thanks for the comment! *hugs*

Thank you, hon! I am happy with both of these pieces as well, I was just a bit nervous about all the 'pinkness' of the Mary wall! ;)

*giggles* Yes, the pinkness is a bit grating, but looking at my own pieces, I'd be a hypocrite to complain. Therefore *love*

LOL it seems to happen to the best of us, the girly colour sneaks in. *lol* And I mean, how often can you make a pink Supernatural wall, that's an oddity in itself!

Honestly, though, I'm trying hard to avoid the pink... but I don't always manage! Someone has to stand up for the underdog, though! :D

LOL in all my time as a fanartist this was only the 2nd time that a wall turned out pink, so I am pretty okay with that. ;)

OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Those are jaw dropping gorgeous!!!!!!!!! I really like the pink one with Wee! Mary :D. I could stare at that for hours! "Crisis of faith" is beautiful and I love that you chose to do that particular scene with Sam. Love the way you made what looks like electricity coming out of the angels hand with the word on top "smite". Excellent work as always! I will be using the Mary one!

Thank you, Kitty! I am happy the Mary wall is so well received! :) Heh, the Sam wall initially started out with Dean comforting Sam but then the crisis aspect ran over the comfort aspect. *lol*

Wow these are fantastic! As much as I don't like Pink, I've made a few myself that just had to be or it was with shades of red in a monochromatic theme, but this really does work and since she dreams of a "normal" life, it's like that innocent pink inside of her. That girly girl inside a tough hunter just wishing to get out. *Loves* It's perfect. Nice job on the manip as usual. I thought it was really all her until you said something. Brilliant!

The Crisis of Faith wall is incredible as well! Amazing blending and composition as always in your work. I always look forward to seeing your art. It's always an inspiring!

Wow, thanks for the extensive feedback! ♥ That's exactly what I was going for with the Mary wall and I am glad it transports to the viewer. And yeah, I tried to escape the pink by playing with red and yellow tones, but in the end the colouring was most harmonic and layered with the pink. I'll probably make a complimentary piece for this one day, showing the opposite of her world, the darkness of the hunter's life.

Thanks again, always glad to hear that I am inspiring to other artists! :)

Thank you, hon! *hugs*

Nah, I didn't look for it, but when I was thinking about Mary related images, I recalled our discussion about the rose-theme meta and so the rose ended up in the wall. *g*

Aww,Chris it's just perfect!I totally adore the Dreamer one, pink doesn't mind me in this piece at all, although I'm not fan of that color either^But I love textures/stocks,pics you chose and you made it greatly:)
Second piece is great as well,I love the idea behind it.Keep it up.^
I'm sorry to hear that you have no time for art and that we probably won't get any new art until the end of this year:( It always cheers me up when you share sth with us^ and sorry that then we probably won't get any tut of you,but I understand that RL is just crazy.I should study, but I can't concentrate, because we're planning trip to the con in Asylum^^
Anyways hope you get better Chris*hugs*

Aww, thank you Helen! I am glad the pieces met your tastes! :)

Actually I started writing the first paragraphs of a tutorial. Maybe I'll start to post it step by step, instead of waiting until I got it all finished. Since I start with base thoughts about composition, image choice etc. it'll take a while until I get to the part where we will actually open PS. LOL

It totally met my tastes!:) I was lurkin' around your site and LJ,cause you said you're gonna post new walls in week or so and I couldn't wait for it:) so you made my day^

Oh CHris,I didn't expect you to already work on it,especially when you're so busy. Thanks it means a lot to me that someone like you - such a wiz in ps - spend his time with makin' tut for others*warm hug* I'm letting it all on you,if you wanna post it step by step or all in one:) I can wait, tho I really didn't mean to make some pressure sweetie^ You really are awesome!:-*

ROFL you could always just friend me, so you wouldn't miss any posts and wouldn't need to lurk around! ;)

I am not pressured at all. I wanted to do this for my site for a while now and it's good to be motivated. It's all just a matter of time. I am really no wiz in PS, I know people who know the program itself a lot better than me. I just know enough to work around the stuff I don't know. *lol*

Oh,thanks I wanted to friend you few weeks ago,but than I forgot it^^SO yep,it sounds good and I think I'm gonna add you to my f-list^

Glad to hear you don't feel pressured:) and that you wanted to do that anyway. You know they might have better technical knowledge in ps,but for making so gorgeous walls like you do is needed some sense for art, compositions, colours etc.Just like real artist:) That you don't know whole ps from start to beginning is totally understandable for me,lol. At least you know well tools you work with and from my angle of view,it's enough:P

Friended you back! :)

Aww thank you! Yeah, true, there are some things in fanart that you cannot learn so much as they are artistic skills like a sense for composition or perspective or colour harmony. I am always frustrated about people who think that digital art is no real art and that only drawn and painted art is valuable. The work on a digital canvas can be as complex as the one on a real canvas and it requires a lot of similar skills.

Date: 2008-12-21 09:48 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] helpspb.livejournal.com
Aw,thank you:)

You're the most welcome:)I agree that it requires a lot of skills,I see that myself every day when I can't figure sth out,LOL.It's art the same way as painted one, because you still have to play with colours, compositions, textures, levels and I don't know what else.^And I can say that it's really not easy to get something I'd be satisfied with, but on the other side you make a brilliant job with your art:) I wonder how long have you been working&learning in ps?^^

PS I noticed that in my previous post I wrote from start to beginning,ROFL.SO just make it clear I meant from start to end,LOL.But I know you got it^

I bought PS in September 2005, so it's a good 3 years now. I learned most via tutorials and by studying other peoples' art. At some point I developed my own style and approach to fanart and so here I am. LOL

Date: 2008-12-21 10:30 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] helpspb.livejournal.com
Oh,it's good,I'm working with it for a year I think,so there's still a hope for me,LOL.
Yes,tutorials are great to learn something, but I can't find any where I'd learn anything new.^I mean most of them are just few steps, mostly how they made some icon. It's of course good thing and I learned from these tuts a lot,but now I'm in dead point and don't knwo what to do anymore:)
Wow,so you worked yourself out perfectly^ I have to say I love a lot even your old art.

Totally off,but I was wonderin if you saw any new movie with boys? Like ten inch hero or new your minutes(or sth like that, lol) or any horror movie with them?As you usually have the smart opinions and I mostly agree with you,I was just wondering about it and if you saw some,if you liked them ^^

From: [identity profile] galathea-snb.livejournal.com
Well, I am in a fanart community and most fanartists have tutorials. Friends of mine recently opened a site for tutorials only, maybe you want to look there. Take a peek at Bre's and Matilda's tutorials, I am sure you learn something there.

http://www.effulgent.momentofgrace.co.uk

The only recent movie with the boys that I saw was TIH. I liked it, but I was very annoyed with the ending. It's a bit difficult to discuss here, if you find out how to open your privacy settings we could talk about that via message. :)

I've heard that TIH was good.I didn't watch that myself, tho because I didn't find any place to download it(except torrents). And I also heard that ending was kinda crappy*nods*
Heh,I'd like to open my privacy settings,I tried to find some place where I could change it,but there wasn't anything. But on the bright side when you're one of my friends now,I think that it should be alright*wink* other friends send me pms succesfully^

I love the new art! The Mary one is my wallpaper cause it's just so beautiful, and I have a very big soft spot for Mary, I just can't help it.
Crisis Of Faith, I really love the concept! I figured you would make art to that after I seen the episode, and I love the way you put it together. It's so simple but it has such meaning to it with all of it's elements it's really great.

I adore Mary too and although I don't like pink either, I actually have that wall as a desktop as well. She looks so pretty and hopeful in that main cap. ♥

I want to art more from 4.07, I just need to figure out how! LOL

Anyway, thanks for the enthusiastic response. It's always appreciated. :)

I'm not a big fan of the color pink either, but the way it's done it's not TOO pink, and it just seems to fit. I don't think another color would have made the piece as stunning as it is.
The main cap is my favorite part! <3 Just the way she's smiling and the twinkle in her eyes. ^_^
I don't quite get the rose part you mentioned before though.

Date: 2008-12-21 09:04 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] galathea-snb.livejournal.com
Oh, the rose: Well, I didn't read it myself, but there was a meta in fandom a while back that showed that Mary has a rose theme in the show. For example in 2.20 she grows roses in her garden or in 4.03 she wears clothes with a rose embroidery. I am sure there's more, but as I said, I didn't read it myself, a friend of mine just told me about it and it stuck with me. :)

Date: 2008-12-21 09:10 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] tuesdaymelodies.livejournal.com
OHhhhhhhhhhhhhh! I never noticed those things before! Lol. I guess a rose really fits her though now that I think about it..

Date: 2008-12-21 09:28 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] galathea-snb.livejournal.com
Heh, yeah, I didn't really pay attention to it either. I am not sure if it is a deliberate effort in the show or more a coincidence, but I think the symbolic meanings connected to the rose are intriguing for Mary. Of course it's a symbol for love and beauty, but also for keeping secrets, blood and martyrdom.
