SN fanvideo recommendations - Part IV

galatheaSorry it took me so long to continue my fanvideo recommendations, I wasn't really in the mood to formulate feedback, but in the last couple of weeks after the finale of S2 some awesome new vids found their way into my collection, so I decided it's about time to compile another post.

“I want you to understand that my malevolence is just a way to win” (Recoil)
YED PoV; This video is absolutely brilliant and original, I don't think I have seen something quite like it yet. The music choice is unusual, a nearly intimate recitative that reflects on the YEDs view on the world and on his interest in the Winchesters perfectly. It's genuinely creepy and the imagery conveyed through the lyrics ranges from disturbing to darkly poetic and the vidder(s) managed to perfectly capture that imagery in the clips. The pacing and flow of this video is fantastic, the overlays weave into a fluid narrative and despite (or maybe because of) the creepiness it packs quite the emotional punch in some sequences. I really can't recommend this video high enough and if you only watch one video in this list, it should be this one! ♥

Right Behind You bymistojen
“No matter what, I'm always right there behind you” (Our Lady Peace)
Dean PoV, Sam PoV; The title says it all, this is about my favourite topic, the brother’s relationship. Even though they fight and hurt each other, Sam and Dean will always have each other’s back. Although I am a major fan of the muted, nearly monochromatic cinematography of SN, I love how the vidder enhanced the colours here, the soft and vibrant colouring emphasizes the lively emotions between the boys. The editing is lovely and the clips works well with the lyrics of the song. If you need a quick fix of brotherly love, this is just the right video! ♥

“Leave the dream of hearth and home, live and die and gone” (The Wailin' Jennys)
Dean PoV; Another vid about the Winchesters and demons, but of the red-eyed variety this time. *g* This video is about Dean coming to terms with his deal and the life that lead him to that sacrifice and the vidder even packs an AU twist at the end. I really love the song choice here, because bluegrass/country is rarely utilized in SN fanvideos and the lyrics are really lovely for Dean’s perspective. The editing to the pace of the music is nicely done here and the few effects utilized very well.

“Breathe in breathe out, tied to a wheel fingers got to feel.” (Bush)
This is an ode to the sleek, black beauty known as 'baby' in the show! *g* Yeah, that's right, another Impala tribute. Fittingly all in black & white this video compiles a slew of beautiful Impala shots, manoeuvres & car chases and naturally features Dean alongside his ride most of the time. The editing is fantastic, very fluid and the vidder has a good timing, I love the effects in sync to the upbeat of the music. A must-see for every fan of the Metallicar! ♥

Smile Like You Mean It bywinterevanesce
“Dreams aren't what they used to be, some things slide by so carelessly ” (The Killers)
This video is about Sam and Dean’s ability to always find their footing again, no matter what they go through and eventually be able to smile again, leaving the pain behind. Admittedly I was sceptical about the song choice here, since the lyrics don’t exactly scream SN to me, but the vidder really makes it work. I love the warm, summerly yellow tint used here, which goes nicely with the theme. I like how the video combines light elements with a vague underlying melancholy, without ever drifting into depressing territory. It’s just very atmospheric, with a nice flow and pacing!

“Girl, your final journey has just begun, destiny chose the reaper” (The Rasmus)
This video is dedicated to the creeps of the show, the ‘monsters’ of the human and supernatural variety but also to the victims. What I really love is the focus on some of the female characters and their fate in the show (Ava, Madison, Jess, Jo), approaching and exploring SN from a different angle, something I don’t see often in SN vids. The lyrics of the song in combination with the editing work especially well in those sequences. The editing in general is pretty much flawless, the vidder handles the action-orientated passages very well, it’s a real pleasure to watch. If your connection is good, I would recommend to download the insanely high quality version of the vid, it just looks best! :D

“I got my freedom, I got life” (Groovefinder/Nina Simone)
I really can't leave this without some fun! This video had me grinning throughout, I mean, c'mon 'Hair' and Supernatural is a totally obvious combination (what? it is!), and it's about bodyparts and our boys do have some really nice ones. *g* The vidder catches some hilarious expressions and funny brotherly interactions in this video, the editing is simple but effective and I really love the zoom-in effects on the ‘bodyparts’. A feel-good video! :)

Date: 2007-08-17 06:06 pm (UTC)Yeah, I wanted to, the thing is, I read like a million SN fanfics and the fandom is ripe with fantastic writers so I have like 500 stories that I adore and love and would recommend LOL writing them up, feedbacking them would be one hell of a time-consuming process. I'd need to start with my favourites or with certain categories. I am still pondering how to do that LOL.
I have lots of stories that I loved stored in my memories, even categorized them roughly, so if you look for some reading material, you can have a peek there until I come around to actually do a recommendation post. ;)
