Finale Wallpaper
The last two weeks I was pretty busy, not to mention slain by the heat wave we had, so I didn't get around to make art. Yesterday my muse struck though and I finally took the plunge and made a wall that focuses on the sadder aspects of No Rest For The Wicked. I hope ya'll like it! :)
Oh, and after much internal debating, I finally changed my LJ layout to a more open and seamless style. I was so tired of the box-y Flexible Squared layout. :)
Legacy: Throughout S3 we see Sam steadily become darker and more ruthless, driven by the fear to lose Dean. This progression culminates in Mystery Spot, where Sam becomes self-destructive after Dean’s death; in the finale though, Sam accepts that Dean makes the ultimate sacrifice to preserve his brother’s goodness. In my wallpaper Sam honours that sacrifice by preserving Dean’s legacy.
I tried to visualise Dean's last words to his brother: I positioned Dean in the middle of the wall, because in life and in death, Dean is the central point of Sam's life. To the right we see (future) Sam carrying on Dean’s legacy, saving people, hunting things, taking care of Dean's car, just like his brother showed him to. I blended softly faded Dean caps just behind Sam, where Dean mirrors Sam's actions, to symbolise that a) Dean is always with him, if only in spirit and not in flesh and b) Sam continues the family business, like his brother taught him to. Dean is present in everything he does.
Since Dean's death leaves Sam's life without warmth and joy, I chose a 'cool' blue as the dominant colour, but there's warm yellow light streaming in from the right, showing that there's hope beyond the abyss of black desperation, that dominates the left side. I am quite happy how this piece turned out!

Aww, yeah, parallels are one of my favourite themes in SN. Glad you like it! :)

But the wallpaper? I felt my heart pang all over again, but it's so inspirational. It's definitely like Dean telling him to take care of himself. N'aw. Boys.

That's stunning. Never apologise for overthinking your work - that intense conceptualisation is what gives your art such depth and beauty. ♥
...I was going to start talking about my favourite bits of the image, but then realised I'd end up talking about it all, so...you get the message. :)

I can't quite help the overthinking LOL .. it's just what I do and I don't really mind it. ;)

You keep that muse of yours well hopped up on candy and living a life of luxury now that she is back with you again, you hear!

ROFL I'll try to, but my muse doesn't really react all that well to bribery! *g* Stupid thing!

This piece is just... wowza. Here you go with the happy and then we FINALLY get the angst-ridden from you! :P This piece is done so beautifully. I love how you have Dean faded in the background, using images that have guided Sam through his life and the choices that he made and Dean's last words with him. My heart clenches every time I think about it, I need the fourth season to start now! hahaha The shapes in this are also beautiful, like layers of Sam that have Dean woven in so deeply. Gorgeousness!
And to comment on my Twilight obsession... yes, I know, I can't stop! When I find something I like, I LIKE it. lol
*HUGS!*

LOL it's okay, nothing is better for the muse than a new passion and if something leads to gorgeous art, I am totally cool with it! ;)

Breathtaking and heartbreaking!!

I have a question. I am using one of your wallpapers as a header, credited of course, but I don't know if I am allowed to do that.

Well, generally I am fine with people using my stuff as long as they credit me and let me know that they use it. My wallpapers are not designed to work as headers, so if you want to use one of my walls as header, just tell me which size you need and I can re-size the wall, so it fits better. ;)
