Exactly! And I don't think he should. Also, I totally agree that Sam realises that this moment is about Dean and not about himself, that's why he doesn't pick up a defensive argument here, like he used to in the past. He is completely focused on Dean, trying to reach him.

you loved the episode Shadow because in it Dean gave something to Sam (his freedom) without expecting anything in return
Ooh good catch! It's Scarecrow, not Shadow, but yeah, you're right, that's a great additional parallel. One more reason to love the episode. *g*

I hope to see him again, but I fear for his fate.
Yeah, I don't think he will survive the season, should he return, although I actually wouldn't really mind to have him pop up as a recurring character in S6, but I doubt the writers make that happen, he is too big a controversial issue in fandom. LOL
