To be honest, it kinda feels to me as if having brought the brothers this far, they just aren't really sure how to write their continued reconciliation. There needs to be tension, and so...it's as if they have forgotten how to write that tension effectively, so have just regressed the characters to achieve it. It is enormously disappointing - not to mention ironic that it should be during the reconciliation phase that this problem strikes, since they didn't seem to have much trouble with the disintegration last season!
Having said that, though, there were plot elements last season that I wasn't happy with, either. So I think the main problem, really, is that there are so many ongoing plot strands now, both character and mytharc, that the writers are overwhelmed by their own story and as a result are dropping balls at the moment.
